Introduction
With its highly developed infrastructure, prominent academic staff members, 16,000 students from 110 and 1,100 academics from 35 different countries, quality programs in English, the opportunity of learning a second foreign language, student exchange programs, rich sports, social and cultural activity opportunities, international accreditations, an international teaching context, and a diploma recognised throughout the world, EMU prepares its students for their international careers by educating them in becoming creative and competitive individuals with entrepreneurial skills.
EMU has been offering quality education through 107 undergraduate and school programs and 103 postgraduate and doctoral degree programs provided by 12 faculties, 4 schools and Foreign Languages and English Preparatory School.
EMU History
1979
The Institute of Higher Technology constituting the foundation of EMU is established. The Institute of Higher Technology starts providing education with the Departments of Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering offering 3-year programs to 105 students with the aim of educating an intermediate workforce between an engineer and a technician and issuing a ‘technician-engineer’ diploma to successful students.
1984
Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering Departments are extended to four-year programs.
1985
Governments of Turkish Republic (TR) and Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) mutually agree on opening a university called ‘EMU’. Members of the T.R. Council of Higher Education visit the Institute of Higher Technology with the aim of transforming it into a university.
1986
Following the TRNC Assembly’s approval of the Statute establishing the North Cyprus Education Foundation and EMU (18/86), the Institute of Higher Technology is converted into a state University assuming the name of EMU.
1986
Faculties of Engineering, Arts and Sciences, Business and Economics and School of Computing and Technology are inaugurated.
1990
Faculty of Architecture and School of Tourism and Hospitality Management are established.
1996
Faculty of Law starts offering education.
1997
Faculty of Communication is inaugurated.
1999
Faculty of Education is established.
2005
EMU obtains full membership of European University Association (EUA) and International University Association (IUA).
2007
School of Business and Finance (School of Applied Disciplines) starts offering education.
2010
Faculty of Health Sciences and School of Justice are inaugurated.
2011
Faculty of Pharmacy is established.
2012
Faculty of Medicine, School of Health Services and Faculty of Tourism start offering education
2019
Faculty of Dentistry start offering education

Mission
Alumni Relations and Career Research Directorate (known as ‘MIKA’) organises activities and events in order to strengthen the relationship amongst the University, the alumni and the community. The Directorate also provides supportive services related to current students’ prospective career plans.
Vision
MIKA endeavors to contribute to the growth of an elite and prestigious community of EMU graduates throughout the world.
Life-long Communication
Adopting a “life-long communication” philosophy and regularly updating alumni-related information, MIKA ensures the establishment and the continuation of communication between the University and the alumni. The Directorate administers regular alumni surveys and shares the feedback obtained from graduates with the relevant departments/units of the University. MIKA also works towards the enhancement of the communication amongst EMU graduates by organizing regular social events.
Career Services
MIKA offers career consultancy services for students both during their study period and following their graduation. In this respect, seminars, workshops and training programs aiming for a sustainable career are frequently organized by the Directorate. The Directorate also supports students regarding their career and internship practice plans through the collaborations settled between the sector and the University.
Collaborations with Sectors
Having established various collaborations between academic units and the professional world, MIKA contributes to the positive relationship between the University and the sector.
Community Services
Having settled joint projects with the TRNC Ministry of Labor and Social Security, Cyprus Turkish Chamber of Industry, European Union Support Office and many other non-governmental organizations, the Directorate supports the country’s social and economic development.
